"Our long-term research is devoted to the development of new technologies for the screening of pregnancy complications during the first trimester," says Ilona Hromadníková, a physician/scientist from the Third Faculty of Medicine Faculty of Charles University and the Institute for Mother and Child Care. She presents more in one minute.
"We are developing technologies for early detection of pregnancy complications such as increased blood pressure, insufficient placental function, premature birth or individual metabolic disorders such as gestational diabetes, which usually manifest themselves later in pregnancy," says Ilona Hromadníková from the Third Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and the Institute for Mother and Child Care.
All videos are produced with Czech and English subtitles.
A small amount of maternal blood is enough to detect pregnancy complications. "We are using an epigenetic approach to detect maternal cardiovascular health so that we can set up a primary prevention programme and improve the cardiovascular health not only of mothers but also of their newborn babies," says the physician-scientist, who is working with her team to translate the technology into clinical practice.
