The Archaeology of Bohemia under the Reign of the Přemyslid Dynasty
This month, the entrance hall of the main building of the Faculty of the Arts has been host to the exhibition "The Archaeology of Bohemia under the Reign of the Přemyslid Dynasty." The exhibition, running from October 10 to November 5, presents a research project organised by the Department of Achaeology of the Faculty of the Arts, and led by Professor Jan Klápště.
International Students' Day 2013
On Sunday 17 November, members of Charles University in Prague gathered to commemorate International Students' Day. 17 November, also known as Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day, is a state holiday in the Czech Republic. It remembers two important moments in Czech history in 1939 and 1989.
Faculty of Arts wins Charlemagne Youth Prize
The CU Faculty of Arts has come top nationwide and second in Europe in the Charlemagne Youth Prize, awarded by the European Parliament for projects supporting European unity and understanding. Gathering plaudits in Brussels was the concept of presentations about individual countries, which has been organised since the 2008/09 academic year by the Erasmus Club of the Faculty of Arts under the title ‘Evropa dělá školu’ (‘Europe Meets School / Europa macht Schule’).
Statement of the rector of CU on the ‘Students write Wikipedia’ project
The key mission of Charles University is the development and propagation of knowledge and education. The University can find the purpose of its existence laid out in the famous text, dear to the university, of Charles’ deed of foundation, which states that those who “hunger for the fruits of knowledge” shall, in the university, find a “table laid out for their pleasure”.
First Student Majáles
The first day in May is not just for celebrating spring and international workers day but also a festivity whereby students rejoice in the beauty of student life. Czech Majáles (Rag) is a long run tradition and is historically a student run event that happens every year at the beginning of May. It enjoys the participation of various student clubs and societies as well as individuals sharing their ideas with fellow students.

Olympic medallist Mirka Knapková on the CU boat, and two-time Olympian Milan Bruncvík representing Cambridge and not his former alma mater, ČVUT: the make-ups of the crews taking part in the third edition of the University Eights competition, part of the Prague Primátorky (‘Mayor’s Eights’) regatta, brought more than a few surprises. Lost in Translation? – Half a century of translation studies on Czech universities
The opening of Lost in Translation? (Ztraceni v překladu?), an exhibition dedicated to the history of translation and interpreting studies, took place at the Institute of Translation Studies of Faculty of Arts of CU, on Sunday 10th November.
Academic community challenges public to greater activity
The anniversary and legacy of the historic events associated with the date 17 November were marked by Charles University in a formal meeting of the academic community on the premises of the Grand Aula of the Carolinum. Speakers focused mainly on the key, unique role played by the university in events in wider society, its contribution to the defence of civic and human independence and the democratic order.
