Ninth World Shakespeare Congress will take place in Prague from 17 to 22 July 2011. The general theme is “Renaissance Shakespeare: Shakespeare Renaissances and the organisers are the International Shakespeare Association, Charles University and the National Theatre. The principal partners are the City of Prague and Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. The Congress will be attended by approximately 600 Shakespeare scholars, Elizabethan literature and theatre specialists from all continents.

New Erasmus students are invited for guided tours and inscription in English language in the largest library of Czech Republic, National Library in Prague, Thursday, 21st February 2013 (8:30 a.m., max. 30 participants). The excursions will include also visit of the Slavonic Library.

Monday 27th October, the Institute of Political Science at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University was pleased to host the City University of Hong Kong's Professor Joseph Cheng. Professor Cheng, in association with the International Documentary Film Festival Jihlava, presented information regarding Hong Kong's current tense struggle with China to regain political autonomy and invited discussion with the audience.

Fun for both adults and their children – this was the popular archaeology event that took place on 21 June at the archaeological park in Prague-Liboc organised by classical archaeologists from the CU Faculty of Arts to mark the two-thousandth anniversary of the death of the Roman Emperor Augustus.

The Fernando Gil Award, which includes a generous monetary prize, is sometimes called the Nobel Prize for philosophy. The first annual award was granted to Professor Ladislav Kvasz, a member of the Department of Mathematics and Didactics of Mathematics since 2007, for his book called Patterns of Change: Linguistic Innovations in the Development of Classical Mathematics, which bridges the disciplines of mathematics and philosophy.

In the month of September the musicians traditionally commemorate the birth of one of the leading personalities of Czech music, the composer Antonín Dvořák. In recognition of this event the Charles University Choir opened its 67th season by a concert composed of works by Antonín Dvořák.

This year's  Chair for Faust will be a meeting of three deans from the medical faculties. It will not take place as usual in the Academia Club, the event will be held in the Saint Cross Chapel at the Gynecology and Neonatology Clinic of the 1st Faculty of Medicine and General University Hospital in Apolinarska 18, Prague 2.

On November the 6th through to November the 7th, a series of lectures was held at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, titled “The First Decades of the Prague University: Transforming Intellectual Space in 14th-century Central Europe.”

Friday, 29 November 2013, saw the preview of an exhibition organized by the Institute for Classical Archaeology and chronicling a decade of research in the Western Desert of Egypt. Located in the entrance hall of the Faculty´s venue at 20 Celetná, the exhibition is accessible free of charge to the academic and general public during the Faculty´s opening hours.

The year 2016 marks seven hundred years since Charles IV’s birth in Prague, yet his presence is still very much felt around the city. Charles Bridge and Charles University are the two best known monuments founded by the King and a quick walk around the cobbled streets shows that he hasn't and won't be forgotten any time soon.

On January 13, 2011, the new publication Bohemia Jesuitica 1556-2006 was introduced at an event that took place in the ceremonial halls of the Karolinum building. The aim of the book is not only to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the Society of Jesus (or Jesuits) in Bohemia.

I was confused when I left the Municipal Library in Prague at 12 o clock on Tuesday the 3rd of June, after working all morning (well, sort of) to go and get lunch. Surely this crowd gathered outside could not be here for the lecture, which was to start in an hour and a half? They must be here for some other thing, I thought to myself. 45 minutes later and they were still there, their numbers in the meantime having doubled. In a somewhat surreal situation it seemed that people were queuing for almost two hours, not to see a politician, a celebrity or a sports personality, but to see a scholar. And for good reason too it seems, since within minutes of opening the doors the lecture theatre was filled to the brim, exasperated staff having to stop eager punters from perching on the stairs and other inconvenient places.

A year ago, Charles University launched PRVOUK, a set of programmes offering scientists and scholars the opportunity for interdisciplinary co-operation and intergenerational research teams. How successful was the launch of the dialogue between disciplines and generations in the programme entitled History in Interdisciplinary Perspective? Doc. 2014 will see the birth of the next stage in the European Union’s Erasmus programme, one that is the most comprehensive and ambitious yet. Succeeding the Lifelong Learning Programme, which ran from 2007 to 2014, will be the Erasmus Plus programme, and like all previous Erasmus programmes, will last 7 years ending in 2020.

What is modern day diplomacy? Is it simply governmental actors pushing agendas? Or it is bigger than that? French professor and researcher Christian Lequesne (Sciences Po, Paris) visited Charles University, the Faculty of Social Sciences, on October 23rd, 2015 to present these issues and discuss his conceptualization of the various forms of diplomacy.
