Academic Senate elected Professor Tomáš Zima as its candidate for the position of Rector

Prague, 25 October 2013 At its meeting today, the Academic Senate of Charles University elected Professor Tomáš Zima as its candidate for the position of Rector of the University. The proposed candidate for the appointment shall be submitted by the Minister of Education to the President of the Czech Republic. Following the nomination, the new Rector shall assume office in February. The term of office of the Rector shall be four years.

The secret ballot took place over three rounds. In the third round 42 from 70 voting slips were valid.

Prof. MUDr. Tomáš Zima, DrSc.

Doctor, head of the Institute for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Diagnostics of the CU 1st Faculty of Medicine and the General University Hospital (VFN), Vice-Dean of the Public Relations Department (2012 – present). Prof. Zima was Dean of the 1st Faculty of Medicine from 2005 – 2012. He specialises in clinical biochemistry, internal diseases and nephrology, the treatment of diseases of the kidney.
