The programme of the International Week (organized at Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Arts with the biggest number of the Erasmus incoming students) or enrollment sessions (offered at other faculties with smaller number of incoming exchange students) do usually not include enrollment and orientation in the important libraries in Prague and at Charles University. As a result the European Office opted to arrange a direct cooperation with the National Library of Czech Republic. They offered guided tours through the library with the possibility of inscription of the students as readers of the National Library as well as Slavonic Library.
This winter semester a total number of 5 guided tours were offered, each for up to 30 student participants, and one of these tours even had to be divided into two sections due to the wide interest of the Erasmus students. About 130 Erasmus students participated on the guided tours, and over half of them subscribed as readers of the National Library immediately following the tours.
We would like to thank to Mrs. Jitka Pejsová from the International Department of the National Library for the kind cooperation with the European Office in preparing this important event for our new Erasmus students.
Simultaneously, the Department of Manuscripts and Early Printed Books of the National Library offered our Erasmus students the possibility to join them for an internship during their Erasmus stay. The interns will help to prepare the new National Library contributions for the digital library Manuscriptorium. So far, there have been over 20 applicants for the winter semester 2012/13 period.
