August 15th
The Charles University Faculty of Science decided to organize an adventure suburban camp for fearless boys and girls aged 6–15 who are interested in nature and sciences. For a whole week from August 15–20 a varied and entertaining programme was prepared for the kids. On Monday, they were able to experience the feelings of contestants in the Fear Factor TV show when giant cockroaches and millipedes were crawling in their hands.
Besides encounters with live “creepy-crawlies”, the children got to work with microscopes, and not just ordinary ones but the electron type used by experts in their research. After lunch the whole group moved to the Hrdlička Museum of Man run by the faculty where in a playful form they learned a lot of interesting facts about the human skeleton.
The pilot project of the suburban camp centred around the natural sciences theme is financed from the funds of the Operational Programme Education for Competitiveness supporting technical and science education. Thanks to that the whole programme for children is free of charge, including the costs of board and insurance of the participants.
We are preparing a more comprehensive report from the suburban camp. Meanwhile you can follow the events on Facebooku.
