Charles University and delegates from the University of St Andrews had a chance to catch up this week in Prague, to reflect on past successes within their partnership agreement and build on further cooperation in the future. 

The Neuron Foundation this year recognised numerous top scientists incl. experts from Charles University. The award for lifelong contribution to science went to Czech internationally-known chemist František Švec from the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Kampus Hybernská has over the years grown to be a major focal point for Charles University events and Monday, which saw the launch of the new academic year, was no different. Attendees included not just students but also teachers and management.

For the third time, Charles University participated in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023, an international comparison of how universities approach Sustainable Development Goals. 

Hundreds of ombuds from around the world, not just Europe, were hosted by Charles University as part of the 18th annual ENOHE conference. Together, participants sought ways to improve the overall safety environment at universities.

Professor Milena Králíčková, the rector of Charles University, is one of the most influential women in the Czech Republic. She is ranked 36th on the list of the most influential women published annually by the Czech edition of Forbes magazine.

The legacy of two dates in Czechoslovak history, 17 November 1939 and 1989, was commemorated on Thursday by students and representatives of Charles University. “We are gathering together to honour the memory of the students and their brave fight for freedom,” CU Rector Milena Králíčková said.

“I consider Charles University to be one of the best in the wider region, it can withstand comparison with the best in the world,” says Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová. The head-of-state met on Wednesday with students at Charles University. 

Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and Barry Sharpless were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their research on tools for building molecules. Their findings will contribute to the development of processes that simplify functional chemistry. 

This Saturday saw a major meeting of rectors from international universities at Charles University discussing the importance of research universities in a time of multiple crises.  On the agenda was the signing of a new partnership agreement between two networks, broadening and deepening the contours of cooperation by LERU and CE7.
