Jan Velinger

Studied film directing at FAMU in Prague and began in current affairs in commercial television in 1996. Worked as a reporter and presenter at the English service of Czech Radio for more than sixteen years, before joining Charles University’s media team in June 2018. He is responsible for the English edition of Forum Magazine and Forum Radio podcasts.

T&L Centres can make a huge difference!

Academic year 2024/25 officially underway!

Where better to kick off the 2024/25 academic year than at the Kampus Hybernská cultural and educational centre? Upper-year students are already familiar with this creative hub, but for first-years, it was a truly UniKátní START (Unique Start) to the next phase in educational life.

The final Friday in September saw the return of Czech European Researchers' Night, where scientific and educational institutions across the Czech Republic open their doors to curious visitors. Charles University, of course, took part.

A six-month internship for students from Sorbonne Université in France, facilitated by the 4EU+ Alliance and the Erasmus programme, has just wrapped up. The fascinating internship is run by the Faculty of Science in cooperation with Sotio Biotech.

FameLab 2024: The beauty and diversity of science

Nine finalists provided unique insights into the fascinating world of natural sciences—that was the FameLab 2024 final in a nutshell. The culmination of the national competition, held under the patronage of the British Embassy in Prague.

The Czech delegation won eight medals at the Paralympic Games which wrapped up on Sunday. Three athletes with ties to Charles University also participated in Paris and did very well - with one competitor finishing just outside the medals.

Charles University’s Hall of Patriots was the site for an important conference organised by Microsoft on Thursday, featuring the company’s Vice-chair and President Brad Smith. He gave a keynote presentation called Sustaining Trust in the New AI Economy.

The XVth Summer Paralympic Games have begun in Paris: among those hoping to clinch medals are three athletes with ties to CU: František Serbus, Anastasja Vištalová and Patrik Jahoda!
