“When I started, the chances of curing the most common types of paediatric leukaemia were around 20 percent – today it is up to 90 percent. Not every doctor gets to live to see that,” says Professor Jan Starý, a paediatric haematologist at Charles University’s Second Faculty of Medicine and Motol University Hospital. 

The day may come when she will fulfil her childhood dream and become a musical star; but for the moment, Karolína Mikysková is focusing on her studies in psychology at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University. She is also involved in charity and volunteer work, which includes helping cancer patients.

Connecting experts in flow cytometry, development and licensing of diagnostic methods, including in the field of leukaemia, are among the main tasks of the internationally successful EuroFlow consortium.
